Feeling Stuck in a Stagnant HR Role: How Can I Find New Opportunities or Cope Better?

I am presently working in a local company as an HR executive. However, for the last few months, I have been feeling like I am not learning much here as my senior is holding all the control, and I am performing just as a support to him, his assistant. Additionally, my salary is not at all competitive compared to my education. I have started to look for new job opportunities, but in the current scenario, it's difficult to find new openings. I have already attended two interviews, but I have not been selected, which has left me feeling very upset. Currently, I am not finding any challenge in my work, and I am unable to switch jobs, which is affecting the quality of my daily office work.

Can you please suggest how I can secure a new job, or how to cope in my current situation, or what steps I should take?

Hi, I am also in the same line. But I update myself daily. So, what you can do is continue your present work while updating all HR-related activities like payroll processing, PF, ESI, professional tax, and TDS. It will help you in your future job. This site is very useful, and you will find all these details on the site itself. Maybe you need to look for some other job because the economic conditions are not that good right now, so wait for some time. There are two types of learning: internal and external. If you don't have a chance to learn internally, you can opt for external learning. Read HR-related magazines, HR case studies, labor law issues, and recent amendments to HR-related laws. There are many things we can learn from the outside.

Payroll, TDS, PF, and issues like the final settlement of an employee are vital parts. It is essential to observe how quickly and accurately an HR personnel can calculate these to provide the expected service on time. However, I am certain that I will not be allowed to handle this process here, as they consider this part highly sensitive and believe it should not be managed by me, despite my 1.5 years of experience in the same organization.

Yes, Swarna, keep patience, dear. I can give you my example from the day I completed my MBA. HR was my first priority. I joined an organization just after my MBA and got an opportunity for a CRO in a broking house. I was very much depressed, as you are, but after some time, I got an opportunity to become an HR trainee in the same organization. Later on, after a lot of struggle, today I am an AM in a manufacturing concern, with lots of challenging assignments, etc.

This is a very bad time for all people who are new in a job. As far as I am concerned, you should carry on with your present job and try to learn whatever is there. My suggestion is please do not leave the job until you receive another offer letter from a good or reputed company.

Have patience in yourself. Just think that you are in a college where you will have to learn everything on your own.
