Understanding PF Withdrawal: Eligibility for Trainees and Probationary Employees

sheeju_85@rediffmail.com
Dear Friends,

I have a query on PF. After how long of being in service can one be eligible for PF withdrawal? When is an employee on probation for 6 months and a trainee for 1 year both eligible for PF withdrawal? Are both eligible for it after 6 months of service if they leave the service in 6 months? Please guide.

Hi,

You can withdraw your PF as soon as you leave a company. If your company is in transition, then also you can get your PF withdrawn. Please see under which conditions you can do so! It does not matter how many months pass as the company has no right to withhold the same.

Hi,

What exactly are you looking for? Are you leaving the company, or do you want a loan?

Hi!

You can withdraw your PF even if you worked for 6 months or a year. The difference is if you withdraw after 6 months, you only get the employees' contribution. If you withdraw after a year, you get both the employee's as well as the employer's contribution.

Dear Tahomaindia,

Actually, my friend is looking to make a change. However, he has only worked for three months in a company as a trainee. He is not enjoying the work and wishes to receive back the entire PF amount that has been deducted so far. His training period is for a year and confirmation will only happen after the completion of the year.

What do you suggest regarding claiming the PF - should he work for 6 months and then leave, or can he only claim it after he is confirmed? Please guide on what is the usual practice in the industry for such a case?

Regards,
Swati
