How Can We Make Our Office Anti-Obesity Campaign More Engaging and Effective?

Dear All,

The management and HRD team in my organization are very keen on conducting a health campaign in the office. The campaign will consist of posters, danglers, and leaflets circulated in all the branches over a period of 4 months. We will commence the campaign on 26th Nov, which is also celebrated as Anti-obesity day.

Our plan is to measure the weight of each employee to determine if they are overweight based on their height and sex. Subsequently, we will identify those who are overweight and obese. A contest will then be announced where overweight individuals will be encouraged to lose weight, and the top 5 losers by the end of March 2010 will receive gifts.

I seek guidance from members on how we can enhance the productivity and significance of this initiative. What additional elements can be incorporated to make it engaging for the employees? Please suggest and guide me as I am new to HR, and my organization is embarking on such an endeavor for the first time.

Instead of giving a gift, you can identify overweight individuals, show your concern by organizing a yoga program, or enrolling them in yoga classes by paying the required fee. This will lead to your employees having a lot of faith in you, and they will accept and attend the programs organized in the future.

Thought is the root cause of all the good and bad things (and illnesses) happening in our life. I feel obesity is mainly because of 2 things: 1) Element of grudge and 2) Sense of insecurity.

I feel you should conduct a handwriting analysis session for all your employees. I am sure they would be surprised that through your handwriting analysis, you get to know the writer's personality traits as well. We can suggest certain changes in their handwriting that would help them in overcoming the negative traits. Negative traits affect our next generation as well; so I suppose you can make the event more meaningful by incorporating this session also.
