Are Associate HR and Assistant HR Manager Roles Really the Same in Your Company?

srikanth_job
Hi Srikanth Gupta,

The roles of an Associate HR and an Assistant HR Manager are not necessarily the same. The distinction between the two roles can vary depending on the organization and its structure. Generally, an Associate HR may have a more junior or entry-level position compared to an Assistant HR Manager who typically holds more responsibilities and may be higher in the hierarchy.

If you provide more specific details about the context or responsibilities associated with these titles in your organization, I can offer a more tailored explanation.

Associate / Assistant Manager

Associate means confederate, partner, or coadjutor, which is a senior independent position below the ranks of an executive director.

Assistant HR Manager means the position is below the HR manager, reporting to the HR manager. An assistant HR manager is often delegated tasks by the HR manager.

An associate is often senior to the assistant manager position.

Thank you very much, LEO.

I just want to clarify this because I am a recent graduate and have been designated as such. As you mentioned, all branches of my company worldwide have only one boss (HR) in the US, and I am next to him, working under him from India.

Could anyone explain to me how to get into the HR field? I have completed my B.Com and am currently pursuing my MBA from Symbiosis through correspondence. It would really help me if someone could guide me on this.

The reply given is correct according to me as the associate is senior to the Assistant HR manager, but I have one query. Many organizations use different terminology, and the job profile is also not exactly the same; even the designations are similar. So, how do we evaluate? Is there any common base?

Hi Smitha,

As you mentioned that you are currently pursuing your MBA in HR, you would have opportunities to start your career in the field of recruitment in small firms. You can simultaneously learn different areas of work in HR and then move into your area of interest in HR. I started my career in HR with recruitments only. After working in recruitments for nearly 2 years, I have now transitioned to core HR activities, which include recruitment, training & development, and HR generalist roles. Therefore, I believe that for freshers without any experience in HR, this could be a good path to establish their careers in HR. What do you think? Please feel free to reach out to me if you need any further clarifications.

Regards,
Sudha
