Dear All Seniors,
We have one Production supervisor who remained absent from duties without prior intimation or leave. We have issued him a Telegram, Advisory Note, Show Cause Notice, and then a charge sheet. Subsequently, we initiated a disciplinary inquiry by a third party. By that time, the employee came back and requested to resume his job. He explained that he had gone to the Middle East for a job on a visitor's visa for a one-month job. Due to the poor condition and ill health of his mother, he needed money to cover the cost of medical treatment.
I have started the inquiry, and he has been present in all sessions and has accepted his mistake. Now, the management wants me to inquire about the practices of other industries before taking any action against him. Therefore, what kind of fair punishment should be decided based on the prevailing practices in the industries? I informed the management that some punishment should be given; otherwise, I could not set an example for others, and in the future, other employees might also follow such practices.
Now, I need comments from all seniors to decide on the nature of the punishment. Please help me out.
