Hi Bibhuti,

This is really valuable information. Many trainees have asked me in the past whether a CV is different from a Resume. I struggled to provide a satisfactory answer to myself. However, after going through the discussion, I have managed to distinguish between the two.

Thank you for starting this conversation.

Keep it up.

Deepak

Dear Sir,

Thank you for remembering me. I will be online from November 6th as I am going on leave to my native place. Your emails always inspire me by pointing out where I make mistakes. I am aware that you also notice where I make mistakes. However, I do not understand why I tend to show favor to those who go unnoticed by others. Please forgive me for not replying as promised.

I have a lot of respect for you because my father is also a retired university professor. I will give you a call once I am back from leave on November 6th.

Dear Deepak,

I wonder why you waited so long for someone to copy, save, and attach the information that you required. Had you searched the web using the key terms, you would have found the answers at [CareerMosaicIndia.com - Resume Tips/ Archives](http://www.careermosaicindia.com/JS/CRC/CT/Resume_arch.htm).

Have a nice day.

Vibhuti has really posted very valuable information. However, I would like to provide the easiest way to understand the difference between the two.

A CV is a detailed lengthy document stating information about you, whereas a resume is short and concise (usually 2 pages maximum) and highly professional. Extra statements such as strengths, weaknesses, etc., are not included in a resume. A CV is typically used for academic purposes or when applying for a job after gaining significant experience, whereas a resume is suitable for positions like managerial roles, etc. I hope this clarifies the distinction for you. If you require further specifications, please let me know.

Vibhuti,

People on websites are drawn towards authentic, new, and quality content. The lack of previous responses can be seen as an indication of this. Additionally, I find the content to be overly preachy, filled with numerous "do's," "must do's," "have to's," etc., which might deter a certain segment of the audience.

This is a good article differentiating between the Resume & C.V., but more interest is given to the Resume rather than the C.V. in detailing the same. Presently, the trend is that everyone asks for a C.V., even for a clerical job, as no employer knows what to ask. This gives an idea to employers about what to ask for, whether a C.V. or a Resume, in the future.

Dear All,

The term "Curriculum Vitae," commonly abbreviated as C.V., originates from Latin, meaning "Educational Background." A C.V. is typically used by freshers seeking their first job, where they primarily list their educational details rather than work experience. Therefore, it is referred to as a C.V. On the other hand, a Resume or Profile is essentially a biodata prepared by a professional for subsequent job applications.

Whoa... I thought they were the same in meaning, except one for English style and the other one for American style. Thanks for sharing.

Friends,

I felt that it should not be shared with our friends because I received some mail stating that this article has already been covered on citehr earlier. But my question to my friends is, "If you find anything new on the web, don't you share it with your friends?"

Frankly speaking, when I found this article on the web, I just couldn't help but post it on citehr. I may not be right, but while sharing it with all of you, I never think if I am doing something wrong.

If any person is searching the web and finds something informative, and if they share it with others, is it wrong? If it is wrong, please comment via mail, and I assure you all that I will never share any information. It may be my last post on citehr if you don't reply.

Hi all, as far as I can recall, there is actually no difference between them. 'Curriculum Vitae' is a UK English version while 'resume' is a US English version. But both will contain the same content. Are there any more differences between the two? It will help if anyone can provide inputs.

Thank you, Kanishka Saha
