Dear All,

I need your help to know if a Ph.D. in management adds value in the HR field. I'm planning to pursue a Ph.D. in Management from Mumbai University. Currently, I work as a Senior Manager HR with Modi Groups.

Please provide me with your suggestions and guidance.

That is the same for me too. I have 15 years of experience in Administration & IR. Pursuing a Ph.D. is also on my mind. I believe it would be beneficial for a career shift to academics. However, industry perspectives would be greatly appreciated.

No value in the industry, except if one likes to opt for any academic job, criteria for which are fixed at a minimum PhD. (What is the basis of keeping such restrictions, even policy makers/formulators do not bother to explore that with the passage of time!). Please note that many successful leaders here do not have a formal management degree, forget about a PhD.

Selection to Professor:
Eligibility: PG degree/ME/MTech/MBA + 10 years of experience in teaching/research/industry, etc., or a PhD degree with some experience. There is hardly any basis in finding out the parameters of equivalence between PG + Exp. with a PhD.

Selection to PhD program differs equally in eligibility, degree requirement, duration, off-campus/on-campus requirement, contact hours/residential needs, etc., leaving far behind the quality of the research jobs. No uniformity.

So, what can we expect from such a system? Nothing. But let us be in this turbulent flow (of present higher education) as per the available choice and chance of getting it as another degree "Dr."

All the best!
