Struggling to Find HR Jobs as an MBA Fresher? Let's Discuss Employer Expectations During a Job Market Slowdown

I am an MBA fresher with specialization in HR and Marketing. I want to know that during this scenario of slowdown in the job market, I found very few jobs in the HR field, and most companies are demanding experienced individuals. Even if there are job openings for freshers, the skills and qualifications required are equivalent to those of graduates, especially in consultancies. This situation is frustrating as being evaluated on the same level as graduates raises questions about the value of pursuing an MBA.

Moreover, please tell me what employers expect from HR freshers. How can we assure employers that given the opportunity, we can demonstrate our capabilities? The challenge lies in the fact that no one seems willing to consider freshers for these opportunities.

Sorry to hear about your experience. The slowdown has made hiring less productive and costly. What many people, like myself, are doing is trying to hire experienced staff at a lower cost so that new hires can be immediately productive, as opposed to hiring a fresher.

Yes, I do understand your concern.

I have 2.6 years of experience in the HR industry, and I started my career in a "Consultancy". Like you, I had the impression that I could easily transition to corporates after completing my MBA. However, I never imagined that I would end up in consultancy for a job because I did not have a good impression of consultancies. Of course, I opted for a good consultancy with a competitive package, which always motivated me to work in a positive work atmosphere with quality work.

There are three categories of consultancies:
1. Very Good Consultancies
2. Good Consultancies
3. Average Consultancies

Very good consultancies provide facilities to employees similar to corporates, even though their infrastructure might not match corporates in terms of employee strength. Examples of such consultancies are Manpower, ABC, Kelly, and a few more.

Good consultancies are mid-sized with a good work style, such as Alp Consultants, CareerNet, etc.

Average consultancies may offer lower salaries and withhold revenue details from employees.

So, based on these distinctions, you can choose the consultancy that aligns with your preferences.

Regarding your skills: A fresher's resume typically focuses on education and personal information. It should be simple yet impressive, highlighting your activities during your MBA to showcase your active participation and quick learning ability. Consultancies and companies look for attributes like a positive approach, openness to learning, confidence, communication skills, and attitude in freshers.

There are lots of reasons for not hiring freshers:

1) Organizations want lean manpower and have already eliminated excess flab in their system.
2) Even experienced individuals who are reluctant to change jobs and are willing to work under pressure indicate no necessity to hire freshers, train them, and bring them up the curve. This process is time-consuming and costly.

My suggestion to freshers would be to join unique training programs that offer practical skills. Ensure that your resume is developed properly.
