Enhancing Work Atmosphere: HR Activities for Employee Engagement and Welfare

metrotelworks
Hi friends,

I want to conduct some activities which make the work atmosphere light and friendly. Please suggest what I should do so that employees feel good at their workplace. Also, our attrition ratio is very high, so I am planning to do a small internal survey for which I want to create a questionnaire. Please help me with what questions I should include. Additionally, what other welfare activities can I conduct?

Regards,
Poonam

Hi all,

I'm sailing in the same boat. Please suggest how to make employees feel important and create a sense of joy in the workplace. Some ideas could be:

- Wish them on their birthdays
- Congratulate them on successful completion of, let's say, 'x' years
- Celebrate anniversaries or organize a day out

Here comes the question: What's next and how to proceed?

Regards,
Deepthi.

Dear Friends,

I would like to share what we currently do in our organization as part of the HR activities / welfare activities.

We organize:

1) Felicitation program for children of employees who have secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the annual exams.

2) "Best of Luck" to children of employees who are appearing in 10th and 12th standard (by visiting their residence with short notice).

3) Drawing competition / Essay competition for children.

4) Rangoli competition for family members of employees.

5) Annual Sports Day.

6) Family members visit to the factory.

7) Family picnic / get-together.

8) Competitions like Antakshari.

9) Competition on safety during safety week.

10) Suggestions on given topics.

11) Yoga and Pranayama.

In addition to the above, we have started a unique activity for employees traveling from Pune to the company in the morning, called "Yoga on Wheels" - which includes a series of activities such as different exercises for eyes, concentration, breathing exercises including Omkar, laughing for minutes, clapping for acupressure effect, etc. We conduct these dual beneficial activities (health and utilization of travel time) daily for 30 minutes during the commute, and this has been ongoing for the last 176 days.

All these activities are part of the goals of my department. Perhaps this is one reason why the industrial relations issues are minimal, and the attrition rate is only 4%.

For any further clarification, please feel free to email me at fmshaikh@rediffmail.com.

To make employees feel important, first, understand that they are not only workers but also family members. A session of sharing their past life or present situation with great concern can help you out.

Hi all,

I like the ideas, but apart from wishing the employees on their birthdays or on the anniversary of "x" years, you can also present them with a card or a beautiful rose. Such activities from the HR side can motivate the employees, and they will feel that they all belong to one family.

Regards,
Hina :)

Hi Poonam,

You have so many HR activities to motivate the employees. The first and foremost thing I feel is that the working environment should be pleasant for them to work, so you have to take care of that first. Then you can take them for a team lunch or outing once every 2 months or once a month depending on convenience. You can celebrate their birthdays at the end of the month and invite their family members on that day. Additionally, you can have a general meeting with team-building games and other fun activities to help them relax from work tensions. This is where they can get to know their team members better, interact easily, and receive gift vouchers for all participants. Moreover, greeting and giving gifts on their birthdays or wedding anniversaries would be thoughtful.

I hope I have provided you with some ideas. You can implement them in your way and with your creativity.

Wishes,
Swati
