What’s a Fair Salary for Full-Time Watchmen and Cleaners in a Cooperative Society?

Please let me know what the right pay is for a full-time watchman and cleaners for a cooperative society.

The pay depends upon the minimum wages fixed by the state government and does not depend upon how the establishment is formed, i.e., whether as a proprietary concern, partnership, company, or cooperative. Though cooperatives have some privileges, they are also expected to follow the normal guidelines on minimum wages applicable to the scheduled employment under which your establishment operates.

Respectable Madhu ji & other Friends,

This old post came to my attention just now, and the following questions arose in my mind:

1. Is the minimum wage rate for a Security Guard in Mumbai above Rs. 10,004/- per month for 8 hours? Can any co-op society, especially a housing society, afford to pay it?

2. Is the MW Act / SG Board Act applicable to CHS? Is there any exemption?

3. CHS is not an industry. It's not a shop. It is not a commercial activity or business activity. The ESI Act is not applicable to CHS. The PF Act is not applicable to CHS. Then on what basis is the MW Act / SG Board Act applicable to CHS?

4. How many CHSs follow the MWA?

May I invite discussion on it?
