Stuck Between Regional and Corporate HR Roles: Will Choosing Regional Limit My Future Growth?

meghana
Dear friends,

I have been getting a lot of consultants calling me for various HR opportunities, more at the regional level than at the corporate level. As it is prevalent, corporate positions are always one step above regional positions, putting me in a Catch-22 situation. I want a corporate-level position in an MNC; however, I might have to settle for a regional opportunity.

Question: If I take up a Regional Manager-HR position, does it hinder the future growth prospects at the corporate level? Kindly share your personal experience :)

Meghana

Hi Meghna,

You have not mentioned your current position and experience. As an HR professional, you know how important it is to prepare advice for your situation. However, if you are aiming for a corporate position and are confident in securing one, be patient, and clearly discuss your choices with your consultants. Remember, your mobility factor will greatly influence your decision.

Hi Manas,

I'm currently at the Assistant Manager-HR level, and the consultants are contacting me for a Manager-HR position. Hence, I would like to understand if offered a Regional Manager-HR position versus an Assistant Manager-HR at the corporate level, which one should I opt for.

Hi Meghana,

It is better that at this stage you opt for the Regional HR Manager's position, as it will be more beneficial for your career. As an RHM, you will enjoy more liberty and flexibility than that of an Assistant Corporate HR. Moreover, as an RHM, your transparency will increase significantly.

Regards,
Manas
