Struggling with Unpaid Salary: How Do I Write an Effective Email to My Boss?

Hi Everybody,

This is my first post in this forum. I hope I will get some great help from you guys. Could you please help me write an effective email to my boss regarding pending salary? Below is the email I typed myself. Please tell me if there is anything that needs to be changed or added.

My salary has been pending since May, this is the 5th month going on. As we all have families, being the eldest son, I have so many responsibilities on my shoulders. I have not paid the room rent for the last two months, and I have not sent money back home for the last three consecutive months. I never thought I would ever need to write to you about my salary, but now it is something I am desperately waiting for. Please help me; I am so depressed.

Here goes the mail for you:

This is to bring to your kind notice the non-receipt of my salary since May 2009. I request you to kindly look into the same and facilitate the early release of my dues as one payment. If it is difficult for the company to release the same at one go, I request that the payment be made in 2-3 installments (but paid early) and paid up to date. As a salaried employee, I have commitments due for which I have not made payment since May 2009 and am being followed by my creditors. I apologize for the unnecessary course of events, which has forced me to raise this issue and draw it to your attention.

I would appreciate an early settlement of my dues and thank you in advance for a positive reply.

I have taken the liberty to bring to your notice that I have been in this firm for the last X years/months. I have performed my job to the entire satisfaction of my superiors; whatever assignment was given to me, the task has been carried out without delay.

I am wondering what went wrong and where. Kindly inform me so that I can rectify the situation and deliver the expected results. Due to non-receipt of salary since May, I am facing severe domestic issues.

Hey guys,

I truly thank all who helped me. The good news is I got my 2 months' salary deposited into my account before sending the email. I hope the overdue salaries will be credited soon. I really appreciate your great feedback.

Would it not be more engaging to share your thoughts with your boss in a face-to-face meeting to discuss salary? This way, you can gauge the boss's body language, facial expression, voice tone, and sincerity. Your words on paper might be valid but not as powerful as the spoken word. Just food for thought.
