You have plenty of books on counseling. You could refer to Gerald Egan's 'The Skilled Helper'.
More than reading on counseling, it would be good to find opportunities to get trained. If you are in any city, there will surely be training programs available - structured and informal! One learns more from practicing counseling skills rather than reading!
In Bangalore, training opportunities are good.
