Transitioning from Marketing to HR: Is It Worth the Pay Cut for Better Growth?

Pranjalchy
Hi, I have completed an MBA in 2007 with specializations in Marketing and Finance. Following that, I worked in the marketing field for one year at Cipla Ltd. Then, I had the opportunity to join Apollo Tyres, where I started on September 8th, 2008. Unfortunately, after just 20 days, I had a bike accident that resulted in a slipped disk problem. Now, I am determined to pursue a career in HR. I have already commenced practical training in HR, which spans two months. Upon completion, I will be placed in a company with a starting salary of $11,000. I am uncertain whether I am making the right move by transitioning into HR from marketing, as my previous role offered a salary of $20,000. I am curious about the growth prospects in the HR sector compared to marketing.

Hi,

I am currently working at Asia Webmedia Technology in Noida. I joined two weeks ago for a two-and-a-half-month course. They are teaching me all the processes of HR, such as end-to-end recruitment, labor laws, PF, ESI, taxes, bonuses, gratuity, CTC, salary breakup, resume screening, shortlisting, and administrative activities.

Hi Pranjal, you are on the right track. To succeed in this field, you need to invest a good amount of time and effort. You can start by familiarizing yourself with all the activities in HR and then aim for a salary increase and a higher designation.

Thanks and Regards,

You have a slipped disc problem and chose HR? Well, make sure if your plan is to work with less physical activities, the HR position you have opted for does not involve such physical strain (travel, meetings/networking, staying up late to complete all those grievances!).
