Im working on a project on Employee Retention. Besides ITES - BPO industry, i also intend to take up the Aviation industry since we know that India faces an acute shortage as far as pilots are concerned. Pls help me get started. Thanks.

Dear friend,
You have taken a very challenging task by choosing to do this project. The IT, BPO and aviation industry has one problem in common with regard to employee retention- the working environment in all three are highly stress inducing, presumably, a major reason for attrition.
You could survey your topic from two perspectives:
one, from the viewpoint of the 'frequent hoppers' and 'rolling stones'.(persons who have switched jobs three or more times within their career.)
two, from those who have sticked on with any organisation for more than five years at a stretch.
I should caution you that obtaining information from these kind of industry is one uphill task. I had attempted something similar in the past and abandoned it halfway.
best wishes

Hello Jyoti
I always tell my fellow colleagues to do the basics, correctly. "Employee Retention Process" starts from Interview.
Your communication Policy.
Career Planning.
Transprancy in Performance Appraisal.
Succession Planning.
Work environment.
Medical Benefits
Retirement Benefits
Ensure these things and I am sure that you will be able to control the attrition rate.
You will get a good data from your "Employee Satisfaction Survey" and "Exit Interview Details"
These are the things...which helps a lot in retaining people...in any industry.

I hope this will help. Feel free to ask any query.

Hey Rajeev,
Thanks a lot for replying. I had done my summer project with a company in the Aviation industry and i was working closely with the HR head. He shared a lot of info with me with regards to pilots wanting to leave and the agreement that bound them and made them stay with the company. I thought it could give my project an interesting topic. Anyway, after getting your reply i think i would give it a second thought and also talk to the HR head of the company to see if he thinks it would be feasible enough for me. Thank you once again.

Hey Sanjeev,
Thank you for your inputs. I was a little confused about what points to work on. Your reply helped me sort it out a bit. I have also gone through the article you sent. It made an interesting read. I could use some of the info in that article.
