Payroll System - Mis Report

Hello,
I have to work on a project on payroll system. I am interested in knowing how a payroll process generally happens in an organisation (eg: IT company).
I will highly appreciate if someone can help me on this, basically the payroll process(may be if you have some document), the key success factors, and how an mis report of payroll system looks like
