Planning a Perfect Office Opening and Family Get-Together: What Events Should I Include?

Our office is shifting to new premises, and we are planning for an opening ceremony and family get-together. I have been given full charge of organizing the event and planning the program for that day. So, please let me know what type of events I can conduct or how exactly I should plan for the day. The event will start around 4 p.m. Since this is my first event in this organization, I want it to be perfect. I am in need of suggestions.

Organizing parties is really fun now. What you need to do first is have a detailed plan on paper and then implement it. Also, you can have at least some help from team members.

Well, as for the suggestions, let me know how many people are going to attend the party and if families with kids will be present. Because if the latter is the case, the planning will have to be modified. Tentatively, here you go:

- Have a theme combined with a simple dress code (like an evening on the Moon, and the dress code may be Black, Blue, or Silver, or any token that represents stars or the moon).
- Organize interactive games for everyone, including spouses and kids, but keep them simple with some token gifts.
- Food arrangements should be based on your budget. It could be a catering arrangement, an in-house arrangement, or since it's a family get-together, each family could bring some dishes from their own homes.
- Finally, you can have awards for the best-dressed couple, family, male, or female, etc.

Now, if this entire event is going to be formal, the management and administration of the whole thing will have to be slightly modified.

Next, determine the number of members attending the function and arrange food or plan games accordingly. You can provide tokens with numbers, assigning different colors for different groups - for example, blue for ladies, red for kids, and yellow for gents. Place all tokens in three separate boxes and have a lucky dip where one token from each box is drawn, and gifts are given accordingly.

Additionally, you can organize a game of Housie/Tambola, which can last for 30 minutes to one hour.

For children, consider games like tying balloons to one leg and stomping the balloons of other children while protecting their own. The child with the intact balloon wins a prize. Offer complementary gifts to all children under 5 years old, such as a pencil box, toy, or balls.

Keep three to four ten-minute games with small prizes. Games can be found on the internet through a Google search.

If the budget allows and the group will consist of over 75 people, consider hiring an event organizer. They are professionals and will ensure everyone is engaged.
