Hi,

We have just celebrated Independence Day. The next upcoming festival is Dussehra. Can you please suggest how to celebrate Dussehra at the office? It should be a low-cost idea.

Thanks,
Aishwarya

Hi Aishwarya,

We have also celebrated Eid in our office on a grand scale. Now, the biggest upcoming festival is Diwali. Hence, we are planning to celebrate Diwali on a large scale - like Diwali mela stalls, special food, quiz competition, surprise gifts, best-dressed team, etc. For Dussehra, we are planning to have a special lunch sponsored by the company, which would include a chaat counter, sweet/thandai counter, and the main course.

Could you please share your views on these plans?

Hey, thanks Deepali. Thanks for your valuable idea and suggestion, but the main issue with us is the cost. We have to plan some low-cost activities for Diwali.

Hey Aishwarya,

At this time of recession, every company is following cost-cutting practices. Even I have been given a budget within which I have to plan a few employee engagement activities. For Diwali, I am making a plan which would include the costing details as well. Let me complete the plan, get inputs from my team, and then I will share the same with you. In the meantime, if you finalize anything, do let me know.

Cheers,
Deepali

For any celebration, as HR, we need to consider the budget too. We can have more employee engagement activities and spend less on gifting. I am sharing my plan for this Dussehra. Kindly share your thoughts and suggestions.

Dussehra Celebration Plan

1. The activity will start 9 days before, i.e., from the first day of Navratri.
2. We need to divide the team into 4 to 5 groups (based on your company strength).
3. All teams will have one lead.
4. HR needs to share what they have planned for that day (it can be Red Day, Funky Day, or Traditional Day).
5. All leads need to ensure that their team is following the plan.
6. Based on this, at the end of each day, all leads need to give points to any one team except their own, separately.
7. At the end, all teams will gain some points. The top 3 will play in 3 new games, which will be organized by HR on Dussehra Day. There will be surprise gifts (they can be small gifts) for the winning team.

On Dussehra Day:

1. Small Pooja
2. Lunch
3. Games
4. Gift distribution

Tanu
