Frustrated with SBI's New Colored Challan Rule? How Are Others Handling This?

subbudu
Dear All,

In our company, we have scanned the "Combined Challan of A/C No. 1, 2, 10, 21 & 22" original form and placed it in Excel. Our payroll program accesses the Excel and fills up the required details in the form. We have been doing this for the past 2 years without any hassles. However, last month, our challans were returned by SBI, Adyar branch, stating that henceforth only colored challans are accepted and not neat white papers.

I inquired at the PF Office, and they mentioned that they are still accepting white challans and have not instructed the bank to stop it. Despite this, the SBI personnel flatly refuse to hear anything or accept white challans. The colored challans cannot be automated due to their thinness. It seems quite silly to ask us to revert to the stone ages.

Please advise.

Dear N. Subramanian,

Your practice is always good to reduce work, but banks have their own rules. They may sort challans by color. Think from the bank's view. You will realize.

Dear All,

My experience suggests that SBI employees are really hopeless; you cannot expect them to work like employees in other banks. These individuals are similar to government employees.

Bank cannot be justified in returning the forms. Challans are prescribed by the PF authority and not the bank. After all, banks are for their customers. SBI always does this nonsense since all the Govt. monies are held with them, and they are the biggest bank in the country, prompting them to do this.
