Unanswered Posts Are Piling Up: How Can We Encourage More Community Engagement?

The total unanswered posts have risen to 581 topics.

I would suggest that all of us come together and answer the posts as early as possible, especially if they are from students or someone seeking help or suggestions. I believe that if queries are answered promptly, new members will be motivated to return and become active participants in the group.

A Request To CHR:

If you could create one more counter on the dashboard, specifically for topics seeking answers or having queries.

How can we reply to each and every post? It's impossible. What we can do is to request all the members to delete their unanswered posts or create a miscellaneous forum for them so that we can see all of them in one place.

What do you think, Ajmal and CHR?

Hi people,

I think that if there is no reply, a different icon or sign can be used, and in a separate box, the messages can be displayed. Since it is not only queries and questions that are answered, sometimes suggestions, discussions, and questions go unnoticed.

Alternatively, each topic could be assigned to specific individuals dedicated to handling them and ensuring that replies are received properly. This approach could also assist the CHR as they are also busy.

I believe this approach could be beneficial. What do you think about it?

I totally agree with all of you. Let's take our own initiative to answer these unanswered posts as best as we can. Perhaps the most experienced professionals can be more active in it. (More points can be given to good replies for unanswered posts.) But it's not something that can be done by only one person; all of us have to contribute.

A lot of people read this. Until the time that CHR is able to find time to change some dashboard settings for the unanswered queries, I would request all of you to contribute. The main aim of this site is to help HR people. If we can contribute something to it, it would be worthwhile.

You can click on the "Total unanswered posts: 591 topics" and you will get all the unanswered posts only (it is already 3 more than yesterday). Yes, I agree it would be close to impossible for a single person to answer each and every post, but that is why forums are meant for... Teamwork... We have been advocating it... Now let's practice it. I am sure that the die-hard fans of CiteHR would cooperate and help CHR to assist students.

Can't there be some method where people can send a reminder of unanswered posts? For example, if my post is not answered or comes to a standstill for more than 7 days, can I do something about it? This would help us prioritize the unanswered 566 posts (which came down from 591, that's a start). I know we take you to be a technical genius, but just asking if this is possible.

Good you saw this post. I am sure that you would help in bringing down the unanswered posts. Till then, we all can fish from the unanswered posts, answer the queries, and give replies to them. We cannot expect the new members to be conversant enough with the posting system.

I had raised this point on May 4, 2005, when there were 401 unanswered posts. Then again, you drew attention to this point on June 27, 2005, when there were 581 unanswered posts. Now there are 1434 unanswered posts. Maybe this is a natural phenomenon and cannot be arrested.

Maybe it cannot be arrested, but at least all the queries can be answered.

Anyway, I can't request anyone as I myself am not able to devote time to CiteHR now. Maybe by next month, things would change, and I would be back in full form. Till then, enjoy and keep posting.

I am very happy to meet you and that too on a serious point of discussion. First of all, I wish you all the best for your preoccupation as duty is God. We are here to sharpen our cognitions over whatever we have.

I have checked up many pages of unanswered posts. Not necessarily that these are trash. There are many good articles, and I have answered quite some at one stage.

However, the problems I think are:

1. Repetitions - It has been suggested several times that while initiating a new thread, he/she may use the "quick search" first because on the same subject there are already threads, and he/she may add his/her thoughts, but this is not happening.

2. Sketchy articles - Certain articles are just started with one or two sentences from where one may not be able to make out anything. Under such circumstances, the initiator may take the initiative to elaborate his/her idea, and I am sure the post will attract responses.

3. Casual posts - Certain initiators post the articles just casually, and then they do not take care. Once it is not responded to, they may post revised thoughts to attract responses.

I think these measures will reduce unanswered posts. Now there are about 5 per day.

Can all the articles/day life, etc., be removed from the total unanswered posts, or should a query section be started which will be the only thing contributing to the total unanswered posts?

The total unanswered posts are 1527 as of now. I read this discussion and had a look at the unanswered posts. Some are queries, but most remain from the sections of daily life, humor, and general articles. Not all posts can be replied to, is what I am saying. Some are repetitive, as rightly pointed out by Dr. Mahanta; some have been posted for the first time, and they seem to have been posted with the aim of just reading.

The purpose of a forum is to initiate and continue a discussion on the topic. Since most of the articles posted on the forum are not necessarily done to initiate a discussion and are mostly for the purpose of reading, would it be possible to start a separate section for such articles.

High time we cleaned up the unanswered posts.... Humor / Informative, whatever... At least the cleaning would help in finding out the queries and addressing them to the betterment of the community. I am starting to answer the unanswered posts.... Please help me in this effort...

I have promised this before but haven't gotten to it. 😳 I'll take up this issue after the points system modification. That one is a more pressing matter. I want to make sure that the right people get more recognition through points.

What I am going to do is base the points on the number of characters used in new posts or replies, and I will also be letting members donate their points to other members. It will be kind of like a thank you if someone gives some of their points to members who help them.

This is a great idea... The point system, I mean.

Meanwhile, I am cleaning up the unanswered posts. I will try to bring it down by a couple of hundred in the next week. At least queries within the last fortnight would be answered if they are still unanswered.

Why can't we delete our old unanswered messages? Please add a new button so that instead of editing, we can simply delete our old messages.

I am beginning to think that I should probably add a date factor to that unanswered posts query - as in showing only unanswered posts till one week before.

For a start, if the link to total unanswered posts does not show the jokes posted under Daylife and Humour, it would bring down the total unanswered posts by substantial numbers and would also help in locating queries easily.

Totally agreed, but some of these queries become irrelevant after some time, and most of the members do not even care to search for similar problems and answers. Thus, if some of them can be removed, it will be okay - for example, I was looking for a job and posted a query here. But now, it doesn't matter even if no one has replied back. So, I can remove it. Similarly, perhaps similar unanswered queries can be put under one header, and a relevant answer given - like there are many unanswered ones on performance appraisal, which can be easily answered if one makes a search on this site or Google. Additionally, the articles that are posted can be removed from the unanswered posts. It will be easy as articles will be at least 500 words or more. I agree with Ajmal that posts in humor and daily life can be removed because we end up writing one-line messages like "good posts" to remove them, which is not worthwhile. The same time could be spent on answering relevant questions.
