Struggling with English Communication? Seeking Free Resources to Improve Writing and Speaking

kamranzaman
Hi friends,

Would you please help me to send links/materials/ppt on improving English writing as well as speaking? I am facing a lot of problems, especially when communicating.

I will be thankful for all of your support in this regard. Please forward as much material as possible, and if possible, send some links (should be free).

Thanks,
Kamran

Dear Kamran,

Read the newspaper; it is the easiest way to improve your communication. You could also get a lot of details from OWL Purdue University online.

Thank you.

Dear Kamran,

I had a similar problem, and someone advised me the following, and now I am fluent in English - both written and spoken:

'Take early years storybooks, e.g., "The Hare and the Turtle," "The Fox and the Crow," etc. Read the whole storybook once and write the story without looking at the book. Read the story again and try to identify the mistakes you made, and rewrite the story again. This should go on as many times until you feel that your written document is better than the original one - you would definitely require either an electronic or manual dictionary to replace the words for which you find a synonym!

Regarding your spoken English, try reading English newspapers loudly as if you are talking to someone. Then comment on the news item in front of a mirror - efforts to be made to use as many words as possible that you read/saw in the newspaper.

This is a little tedious, but you will be amazed by the results! All the best :)

Also, you have to hear English, read English, write English, speak English, and most importantly, think in English.

To develop spoken English, take a topic, stand in front of the mirror, and start giving a speech on that topic. Practice the same, and within a few months, you will become proficient in speaking.

Dear Kamran,

Shahabuddin has given excellent advice. It's practice that makes perfect. You can always write something and seek help from others to correct it for you. For example, in addition to stories, read letters to the editor and editorials in newspapers.

Have a nice day.
