wilfredo_umipig
Hello everyone,

I am working on policies and countermeasures to prevent and minimize employee absenteeism. Can anyone help me with this? What are the effective measures for addressing this problem?

Thanks,

Dear Wilfredo,

Please provide details about your industry and the composition of your workforce, including Blue Collar workers, White Collar workers, and Management Cadres.

Dear Wilfredo,

For engineers and management staff, the best thing to do is to start with counseling them. If this does not improve, then put an attendance clause in the performance and promotion system, which will have an effect on increment and career growth. If nothing works, go in for disciplinary action as per company rules. Absenteeism has been accepted as a category of indiscipline.

As for the workers, put incentive schemes that will reward workers with extra pay if they reach a certain percentage attendance in a month. If absenteeism continues, then take action as per the labor laws of your country.

Hi,

What you can do is try to find out the cause why people are absent. There may be many reasons. By knowing the reason, you can create an action plan. Alternatively, we can discuss it, or you can implement a policy where people who are absent have their salary deducted. Those who are regular in attendance would be entitled to benefits that you can decide upon.

If you have any queries, please revert back to me.

Hi Wilfredo,

As per my practical experience through counseling, the rate of absenteeism can be controlled to some extent. Another way to address this issue is to implement strict disciplinary action if possible. I have also observed that in one of my previous organizations, two employees were terminated for absenteeism, but unfortunately, no improvement was noted despite the organization providing maximum facilities to their employees.

Thank you,

Hello All!

I have recently accepted an Administrator position at a child care facility where absenteeism is a major problem. I need to put a policy into effect to deter employees from calling out so frequently. It is imperative that staff be present as we have to follow state regulations pertaining to teacher/child ratios. Any ideas will be of great assistance.
