Hi Venus,
I agree with all you have got to say. But have you been to any other city in India? I have been. After a good 6 years stay in Mumbai, I moved to Hyderabad, a city where I spent 20 years before I got married and moved to Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, and Mumbai. Do you know how it is now?
Few Facts about Hyderabad or for the matter any city in India (try Patna, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai):
- Atrocious Traffic - Nobody cares a hoot about others. Elderly & physically challenged better not venture out without help. Nobody is scared of Cops here. They are as good as the statue on the traffic island. In Mumbai, everyone from an auto-rickshaw driver to the eve-teaser is scared of cops. Have you ever tried calling 100 when you didn't get a rickshaw? They respond promptly. I have experienced it 'n' no of times.
- Vendors, be it the bhajiwala or an outlet in a hip mall, don't give a dime for a customer. Their attitude stinks - if not this customer, then somebody else.
- Women can't venture out unless you are fully clothed from head to toe (burkha is preferred, maybe we should make it compulsory - hear hear Talibans) or else they have to put up with such vulgarity; you should be a woman to experience it. Even a saree will not help.
- My daughter, who is all of 8 years old, is eve-teased while cycling on the road. In Mumbai, a woman can walk on the road even at 12:00 midnight without fear. Have you been to Delhi? Should I say anything?
- The laid-back attitude (Hyderabadis call it Nawabi andaz) of the people has to be experienced.
- Were you there in Mumbai during the floods of 26th July or the Local train blasts on 11th July? Mumbaikars... Hats off.
As long as you are in Mumbai, you will not realize the difference. Move from there, and then you will realize the greatness of Mumbai and Mumbaikars.
