Can We Transition Contract Workers to Fixed Term and Then Permanent Roles? Seeking Advice on Conditions

We are a manufacturing company in Pune. Can we enter into a Fixed Term Contract with some workmen selected based on skills? After a year or two, we plan to take them into permanent employment based on performance. They are currently employed by us through a contractor. We do not have any permanent workmen at present. If yes, what conditions are to be put in the appointment letter, particularly about working hours and overtime hours?

You are a manufacturing concern and do not have a single permanent employee. Do your standing orders, certified by labor authorities, have provisions to hire like that? Have you done registration to hire contract labor like that? Do you have provisions to hire on a fixed-term basis all workers on your standing orders? Please understand these points before making any decision.
