Is ESIC Applicable to Hospitals? Understanding the Amendments to the ESI Act

Is ESIC applicable for hospitals? If yes, what is the amendment on the ESI Act to confirm this?

Employees of private hospitals and unaided schools are covered by ESI as per a notification recently issued in this respect by the Government of Kerala. However, this coverage is implemented in the state of Kerala. Please check whether a separate notification exists in your state.

Sorry, I could not trace the notification. It was announced by the Labour Minister that private hospital employees and employees in private (unaided) schools would be covered by ESI. The final notification on ESI to private school employees is there on the official website of the Kerala Govt. Recently, the High Court of Kerala has upheld the decision of the Government to extend coverage to unaided schools, rejecting the plea of the management of CBSE/ICSE schools. Therefore, please contact your local office for details.
