Navigating Career Transition: Insights on HR Opportunities and Market Dynamics

Hi,

I kindly want suggestions from all HR professionals regarding some queries.

Dear, I have completed my MSW and I am currently working in a national funding agency (Rural Development) on a three-year contract. This is my second year. I am receiving a good salary here, but the future in the NGO sector, as I have heard and seen, is not very promising due to salary issues. I am interested in transitioning into the HR sector.

Will my experience in the rural development sector help me in HR?

Is this the right time to quit the job in the current organization, or should I wait for a few more months?

I am from Chandigarh, but I am currently working in Delhi. What is the job market like for HR positions in Chandigarh?

Please guide me as a fresher on what things I should keep in mind while applying for a job and provide any other suggestions that I may not have mentioned here.

Regards,
S.

Hi,

It depends on your job profile in this sector. If you are dealing with employees, then your experience will be considered; otherwise, I can't say. What I suggest is to wait for some time. It's not the right time to change jobs. There are fewer opportunities in HR in Chandigarh, and again, you will face salary problems because they will treat you as a fresher. So, wait.

Best of luck.

Dear Satnam,

I am sorry to disappoint you. I can't answer the question about the situation in Chandigarh, as I have been out of India for decades. However, if you are moving into HR only for salary, think it over. You should feel passionate about a field before you change your career path. I switched over from the industry to academia because I felt passionate about educating others. While the compensation in teaching is generally lower than in other fields, we often enjoy more free days.
