Which MBAfield Is Better For MCA Student?

sarobina
Hi, I'm doing MCA final year through distance education and also working as an Accountant in a Telecom Company. I like to do an MBA in part-time. Would it be useful for me? Or is full-time better for me? I didn't attend the entrance exam. I really like this HR position. I always like to interact with people. MBA offers a broader range of learning, and management skills are valuable to many companies compared to technical fields. In the IT field, we need to update our programming language according to new languages invented.

Should I do an MBA now or not? Which MBA field is better for me? I am really confused. Please tell me your kind advice, after which I can find the correct solution. Thank you so much.

Dear Sarobina,

MCA is Masters in Computer Applications, and if you are really interested in making your career in the IT field, then I believe you should go for MBA in 'Systems'. However, the hot selling MBA degrees are basically Marketing, HR, and Finance.

It all depends upon your interest. I would recommend that you directly talk to some MBA coaching institutes, and they will give you the best counseling regarding this. Career Launcher and TIME in Delhi are some of the good ones..... :)

You are in the east and want to move to the west. By pursuing an MBA, you can become a manager in that field. But my friend, let me tell you, these days continuous upgrading is essential to stay competitive in any field. You cannot just sit back and relax for a lifetime after starting a job. Anyway, if you are considering doing an MBA, you can specialize in HR or finance as your MCA background may assist in managing optimally. However, please do not assume that other than IT fields, there is no need for updated knowledge. That is a misconception.

Hi Sarobina,

I can understand your dilemma. You have said that you are doing MCA through distance education and also working as an Accountant in a Telecom Company. You can think on the following points:

1) I think MCA is a post-graduation. It will enable you to work in I.T. If you do an MBA (other than systems specialization), then your MCA knowledge will not be useful. It will be a total loss.

2) Also, instead of part-time MBA, you should prefer a full-time MBA. It will be beneficial for getting a job.

3) You are working as an accountant in a Telecom Company. In your company, you can also interact with people who are in Finance, HR, or Marketing. Understand their roles and then make a decision in which department you would like to work.

4) As far as MBA admission is concerned, without entrance, you are not eligible for the majority of colleges offering a full-time course. So, you can try for the next year.

5) Also, there are some MBA equivalent courses offered by a few universities. Like Master of Personnel Management (MPM) or Master of Marketing Management (MMM). You can inquire about it in your place. You can take admission to it also.

I hope this will help you.

All the best.

Pallavi.

Hi Saro,

As suggested by Sunita, it's a good idea for you to pursue your MBA in Systems. This will provide you with an extra qualification and the opportunity to learn management and business skills, which could be beneficial if you consider starting a business in the future.

By obtaining an MBA, individuals like yourself, who already hold an MCA, can excel in any industry. However, my sincere recommendation is to pursue a full-time MBA program by taking a break from your current job. This will help you enhance your skills and knowledge in ways that may not be possible through distance education.

I recommend visiting the Career Launcher center in Connaught Place for proper guidance before making your decision. Acquiring an additional qualification is advantageous, and if you have the ability, there is nothing wrong with seizing opportunities from both the East and West.

All the very best.

Hi Saborina,

I think you should go for an MBA in IT & Systems. You can do a correspondence course.

As you are already working in the field of finance, continue with your work and earn experience. What you can do is you can do an MBA part-time with any institute or university. There's a job scarcity in the market, so move ahead with your work. Moreover, you are already a postgraduate, so there's no such compulsion with an MBA. Every second person is doing an MBA, and if you are going to do a regular MBA, you have to start your work from scratch, and this will add confusion for you.

That is, after 2-3 years, you will analyze what you did to yourself. MCA, job experience in finance, interest in HR or marketing. So, if you are fond of studying, then only go for an MBA part-time. In the case of any strong plans for a regular MBA, go for 'A' or 'B' grade business schools only.

All the best

Hi, Sarobina,

As you have mentioned that you are in an accountant job and interested in an MBA, I would suggest that an MBA with finance as your specialization would greatly help you. But please don't do it part-time, as an MBA is a course that requires a lot of practical exposure. It's not about memorizing from the books and writing something in the exams; it's a practical learning of management skills.

It would be really interesting; please go on but prepare well for the entrance exams and choose a good standard college.

Good luck.

Hi,

Management is an art! So, it is not necessary to study MBA to learn that. It would be better to learn the systematic approach to management from the company in which you are working.

Hi, we completed MCA but I do HR Payroll job. How is it? Actually, I have some health problems and am not suitable for night-shift jobs, so I am unfit for an IT software job. Therefore, I have decided to pursue a payroll job. Please give me your valuable suggestions.
