Is Investing in XLRI's PGCHRM Worth It for Career Growth in HR with a Technical Background?

Hi Friends,

I am posting this question to know your view on this. What are the prospects after doing PGCHRM from XLRI? Do people from an HR background only get benefitted, or does someone from another field also have an advantage after finishing this course? I have a technical background and have been working in HR for the last 4 years. I have completed some certification courses in HR (from HR House), but they did not help me in securing a good job profile so far. I am undecided about applying for this course as it is very costly (nearly 2 lakhs) and uncertain about the recognition it will provide me with in the future.

Though we all know XLRI has a reputation for its PM & IR course, that is part of the regular curriculum. However, undertaking a satellite course that is so costly is a real concern for me. If it yields returns, it will be really beneficial, but if it doesn't, it will be tough to accept. I am in my late 20s, and it is very challenging to take chances from this point. Our industry is relatively young, and once you cross 30, people in this sector may not view you as a suitable prospect for the company. Therefore, I am fearful and uncertain about how I should shape my future growth. I have a mix of experiences in recruitment, general roles, and employee relations, but I have never had the opportunity to work with a company that is process-oriented. I have completed a PG course in HRM and attempted to move into core HR areas, but things have not progressed thus far. The thought of pursuing this course has been on my mind for some time, but the cost and my previous failure to secure a good job have put me in a dilemma. Therefore, I am reaching out to you experienced individuals in the corporate world and alumni of XLRI (Satellite program) to seek honest suggestions. Kindly help me decide.

Kindly suggest me.

Thanks and Regards,

Binay

Hi Binay,

This course will definitely help you a lot. It won't give you campus placement help as it is in satellite mode, but it will carry good value in terms of market value, and the course content is also very good.
