What Sparked the Indian Railways' Turnaround? Share Your Thoughts on This Success Story

We have been reading and watching the news that there are great improvements in the output of the Indian Railways in terms of facilities for the passengers and also profit for the railways. The Minister for Railways, Shri Lalu Prasad Yadav, was invited by the IIM to deliver a speech about the success of his efforts.

So, what are the reasons behind this success? It is said that this sudden turnaround is a good topic for managers to think, discuss, debate, and also learn. Friends can post their views:

My view is that he made the railway system easily accessible to the common man. There has been no increase in the railway fare for the last three years (a record in Indian history). He made small but important changes in the railway compartments. The minister himself is very famous for his actions. More trains were introduced. He created an environment for top executives to work freely without fear.

Well, I think that it would be unjust to give the entire credit of the turnaround to Lalu. I guess no turnaround takes place in one term. I guess the policies brought in by Nishith Kumar also deserve some credit.

Dear Friends,

There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed by Indian Railways. As someone from Mumbai, commuting is a serious problem every single day. If you look at the Railway timetable, it has remained the same for ages. No Railway Minister has bothered to look into this matter.
