Confused About TDS Deductions on My Salary: Is My Company Overcharging Me?

Sonia070707
Hi friends,

I recently joined a new company, and I'm having some problems with the TDS deduction that these guys have made. My annual package is 225,000, and the company only deducts Professional tax and TDS from this. Based on 225,000, the monthly salary is 18,750 - 200 (professional tax in my state) = 18,500 before TDS.

Now, regarding TDS, the company has deducted Rs. 1,200 monthly, which is Rs. 14,400 annually. I calculated the TDS on the Income Tax India website, and it shows only Rs. 4,563 as TDS per annum.

Obviously, since female residents have an exemption up to Rs. 180,000, the TDS deducted is substantially higher. What can I do about this? Is the company's calculation correct? I don't really think so. Please guide me.

Female residents have an exemption up to Rs. 180,000. If the TDS deducted is higher, you should inquire from them where they had deposited the amount deducted from your salary. Besides, your Finance department is supposed to furnish Form No. 16 (TDS Certificate No. 199) under Section 203 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, for the tax deducted at the source from income chargeable under the head "Salaries" for the submission of the IT Return. If they have not yet issued it, just ask them to file the return.
