New to HR in a Small Manufacturing Firm: Where Should I Start and What to Prioritize?

seemu agarwal
I have just joined a small manufacturing concern where I have to set up the HR department completely. Can you help me with how I should start the work and what things I should prioritize.

Thank you.

Hi Seemu,

I have worked at L&T for 38 years, with the last 20 years specifically in HR. I have experience spanning from Recruitment to Retirement, covering all aspects of HR in a marketing/aftersales support organization. If you are interested, I can offer you comprehensive assistance as a package. Please consult with your seniors and then revert to me at sundargem@yahoo.co.in or via mobile at 9844008049. I do not anticipate a substantial monetary compensation. Any reasonable amount to cover my expenses for travel, accommodation, etc., would be appreciated. I am attaching my company's profile for your reference; although my company has not been officially launched, you can review the core competencies and capabilities outlined.

Best wishes,

Hi Seemu,

I'll give you just a general advice; hope you apply it to any activity you'll start with. Try to give the people at your company a positive feeling regarding you and your HR upcoming activity. To do this, you should always start with the positive aspects of any activity that may benefit them in a win-win deal with your top management.

For example, if you're going to introduce the employees' job descriptions, attach the benefits they can gain from it. However, try not to create any offensive feelings towards you.

Have a nice job :)
