This is the right step to set the wrongdoer in line. We must think and reflect on making decisions.

Only if you can realize that by diverting a train onto an unused track, you are putting many more lives at risk, will you be able to make the correct decision. Morally, you should be able to judge the relative risks involved.

A thought-provoking presentation should be shared for the benefit of others who struggle with making proper decisions. It can serve as a valuable tool for planners and development professionals.

To be honest, 90% will choose to divert the train to a non-operational track and sacrifice one child. However, a true non-operational track can also endanger the lives of passengers. This was an eye-opener. Before making a decision, we must pause, be rational, and not jump to conclusions. This is probably the thumb rule of a decision-maker: think and act.

Was it not possible to stop the train in its tracks and have a win-win situation for all? Just hypothesizing. Another angle is that should we accept that the sensible ones are always sacrificed no matter what. We see that happening every day around us - the foolishness of the many vs. sensibility of a few!!! Would like your comments...

Dear Shimith,

The PPT was nice, though small. Decision-making is based on the end result of an action. If the end result of an action is good, then we say it was a good decision; otherwise, we discuss root causes and all other related aspects.

In the PPT that you shared, it seems that one child is sacrificed and many passengers are put in danger. Your decision depends on the end result. For example, if nothing happens to the passengers or if the lonely child had seen the train coming on the track and moved back...

Bottom line: A decision, whether good or bad, depends on the result of an action or decision.

We are using this PowerPoint in class. The response is very good. However, we should be very careful in decision-making - attachment and detachment at the same time. Attachment to know the fact and detachment not to be swayed by the fact so as to facilitate impartial decision.

Correctly said. These kinds of presentations should be shown to all trainees so that they learn the art of decision-making. If people end up in danger due to wrong decision-making, they should face the consequences rather than someone trying to help them out of it while sacrificing others, leading to another wrong decision.
