How Can I Make the Most of My Free Time at Work to Impress Management?

padmavathibd
I am working as an HR Executive in a Retail Company. I finish up my work in the first half itself, which includes checking grooming, sending attendance, and entering the target sheet. Any sort of updates, I will finish within the first half. Therefore, I would be free in the second half. Kindly, can anyone suggest what I can do to impress my management?

Hi, either you can have a nice rest :-D, or you can study cost management. Come up with ideas to control costs, concentrate on performance management, take a look at discipline/code of conduct, and start preparing formats and master formats that will help management access ready information. Begin with employee engagement activities, brainstorm ideas for the recruitment process and its associated costs, initiate some motivational programs, and post notes wishing employees a happy birthday. The list goes on.

At the same time, you can show interest in statutory compliances and liaising.

Thank you, Rajeev,

I need some more, please. Since the statutory part is taken care of by the head office and cost control is also managed by the head office, what else can I do for the retail staff? Please provide all your suggestions.

Dear Padma,

1. Visit competitors and conduct a comparative study with parameters.
2. Check with customers on employees' attitude and shopping experience.
3. Identify training needs from this.
4. Assess the knowledge of your staff with surprise quizzes and offer rewards.

Hope this helps.

Hi Padma,

As you know, the HR subject is vast. Try to gain more knowledge by browsing web pages, and importantly, check out citehr. It has wonderful resources.

If you have enough time, try learning new topics in HR to gain a better understanding of the entire HR process. If you are bored with HR activities, consider learning about new subjects like stock marketing or online trading. This way, you will have various options to explore.

The funny part is that I am looking for free time to do all these things, but time is not on my side at all.

All the best,
Kumar

Firstly, I would like to thank all of you for sharing valuable thoughts with me.

Anu, your suggestion is nice, and I will surely try to go and meet competitors. I am also conducting trainings for staff on Saturdays, arranged for a quiz, and checking feedback on how they are attending to customers. If you have any more suggestions, please feel free to share them with me.

Pradeep, I am working for Bombay Swadeshi Store.

Gaining knowledge through CiteHR is really helping me, Kumar. However, I have very limited time to spend on the internet. Can you suggest other ways for me to implement all your valuable suggestions and thoughts in our company?

With regards,
Padmavathi
