Understanding Minimum Wages: Which Components Should Be Included for Compliance?

akatrap
Dear All,

Please let me know what components we need to consider while fulfilling the criteria for Minimum Wages. Is it:
- Minimum Wages = Basic Wages + Special Allowance + 5% HRA
OR
- Minimum Wages = Basic Wages + Special Allowance

If a company has its own Apprentice/Training Program lasting 3 years and intends to provide 75% of Minimum Wages as Stipend/Training Allowance, then which components should be taken into account:
- 75% of Minimum Wages = Basic Wages + Special Allowance + 5% HRA
OR
- 75% of Minimum Wages = Basic Wages + Special Allowance

I am eagerly awaiting your prompt response.

Hi!
1) The gross salary should meet the minimum wages figure. It could be Basic+Any allowance. Therefore, Minimum wages = gross salary. but basic salary should be at least 40% or more of the total gross salary.
2) The rate of apprentice fees are as follow:Sl. No.
Candidate's minimum Educational Qualification required for being Engaged as an apprentice
Category of Apprentice
Monthly Stipend
1.
Engineering Graduate
Graduate Apprentice
Rs.2600/-
2.

Graduate Apprentice (Sandwich)
Rs.1850/-
3.
Diploma Holder in Engineering
Technician Apprentice
Rs.1850/-
4.
Sandwich Course Student of Polytechnic College
Technician Apprentice (Sandwich)
Rs.1510/-
5.

Hi Amit,

Thank you for the prompt reply. This is applicable to certain states and also as per the Apprenticeship Act. When the Apprentice Training Module is not as per the Apprenticeship Act, and the company has its own training module for their apprentices (i.e., not a standard Turner, Fitter Diesel Mechanics, etc., but some other industry-specific skill/job), then what?
