Handling a Loyal Employee Suspected of Sharing Secrets: How Would You Approach This?

Rajul Madani
Dear Friends,

I have a typical situation and I am lost on how to handle this. We have an employee who is good at his work. However, we suspect that he is sharing information with his friends who work for the competition and some who have started their own businesses. We don't want to lose him as an employee, but at the same time, we want to make it clear to him that we are aware of his actions and that strict action will be taken if necessary.

This will also serve as a message to other employees to act accordingly.

Can anyone please help me with handling this situation??? 😕😕😕

Hi Rajul,

Don't go with your assumptions, instead, challenge your assumptions. If you suspect him as the culprit or if you really want to save him, discuss with him one-on-one about the issue. If your assumption is found to be true, then counsel him. Be assertive.

Prepare a formal policy and make everyone sign a confidentiality contract. According to this contract, no one is allowed to disclose internal information by any means (written, mail, photocopy, etc.). Anyone found doing so will be legally punished and may face termination as well.

By implementing this policy, you will indirectly address the issue and also send a message to others.

I have corrected the spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors in the user's input and formatted the text into paragraphs for better readability. The original meaning and tone of the message have been preserved.

Thanks, Guys,

A confidentiality contract is in place. But if I have a one-on-one discussion with him, he is definitely not going to agree to it. But maybe he will get a hint and stop it... I will try that.

Thanks once again.
