Navigating HR Careers: What Job Profiles and Law Courses Should I Consider?

suparnacht
Hi Everybody,

I am a student pursuing PGDBM from a reputed institute in New Delhi. I have chosen HR as my major and Marketing as my minor.

- Which kind of job profiles should I look for?
- Can I pursue any degree or diploma in Law that will help me with Labor Laws?
- Apart from Labor Laws, what other degree or diploma courses in Law can help me?

Kindly let me know if you have any information.

Thank you

Hi,

Why don't you go for a PG diploma in admin and labor laws offered by institutes like Madurai Kamaraj University or Annamalai University? Alternatively, you can pursue a Master of Labor Management from Madurai Kamaraj University.

Hi,

Starting with recruitment in HR is an easy bid, especially in times like this when companies are hardly hiring. However, it can become monotonous in a year or so, prompting individuals to transition towards the HR Generalist role, which is a much better bid in the long run.

Another developed area in India is Training and Development. Initially, individuals have to work with corporates, and then gradually transition into corporate roles as well as freelancing opportunities. Obtaining a diploma in training and development is an added advantage; "ISTD" is one such organization that provides this diploma.

Hi,

With an MBA in HR, pursuing diploma courses in labor law will add value. However, with this kind of qualification, you may be limited to routine industrial relations jobs. I would, therefore, suggest gaining experience in a HR Generalist role for 2-3 years before transitioning to a transformational (strategic) HR role for career advancement.

All the best,
Bala

This is Subramanyam. I am working as an HR executive. I want to learn more about how to use the Performance Appraisal System in organizations.

Thank you.
