After a long time, I need a favor from all of you, especially those who have done some research on ESS. I need to design ESS for my organization. I want to know what things we need to take care of while designing the questionnaire. Please help me by giving me the guidelines.

I am also conducting an Employee Satisfaction Survey in my organization. I have already circulated a questionnaire and am now receiving feedback. I am posting an article and questionnaire here, which is taken from Citehr only. I have only converted the questionnaire into an Excel form for easy analysis, but the credit goes to Pooja, as she sent me this questionnaire.

Hi,

Questions to be asked in ESS from various heads could be segregated and presented separately. This segregation would help the employees to think in relevant terms and also enable employers to analyze the data, which could further be utilized to analyze exits and improve policies, compensation, benefits, trainings, etc.

Additionally, I would like to emphasize that it should be widely communicated so that the majority of employees are present. On the designated day, the entire organization should gather together, and within a specified timeframe, they should be provided with answer sheets. The completed sheets should then be collected promptly to avoid any discussions on the views expressed by individuals.

The analysis could also be shared with the employees to ensure the fairness of the system.

I have recently come across a "climate survey" used in an Education department which covers a range of criteria, these being:

- Individual Morale
- Workplace Morale
- Supportive Leadership
- Role Clarity
- Teamwork
- Empowerment
- Ownership
- Appraisal & Recognition
- Employee Development
- Job Satisfaction
- Excessive Work Demands
- Individual Distress
- Workgroup Distress

As you can see, employee satisfaction is only a part of a look at the overall health of the organization. A project of this nature needs to be supported at an executive level in order that any value can be harnessed.

I used to work in this organization and still have many friends there. They report that the project has had a very positive effect, particularly with regard to leader awareness and leader behavior. There have been other benefits too, but these are seen as the most outstanding.

Here is the flow:

1) Design questionnaire using the following points:
a) You should ask the employees to rate the importance of the following factors:
- Reputation, Culture, Values
- Job Interest & Challenge
- Vision, Leadership & Performance
- Work Environment & Teamwork
- Communications
- Work Conditions, Support & Remuneration
- Performance Management & Recognition
- Career Development

b) Ask them to rate Company's contribution/performance on all the above.

2) Conduct a Pilot study.

3) Cross-tabulate between importance and Performance.

4) Group the range report for all the Managers.

5) Share the findings with the individual groups.

6) Derive action points of the discussion and assign responsibilities against the actionable points.

7) Monitor the progress of action plans.
