Recruitment Question

Ngan
Hi, I am an HR Representative for a software company. I do a lot of recruitment activities. One of the tasks is to contact candidates to set up interviews. I have been telling all candidates that they will have a written test - part of the interview agenda. However, one of my managers asked me not to tell the candidates that they are going to have a written test.
My question is should I or should I not tell the candidates about the test?
Thank you!

Yes, you should surely inform candidates in advance abt the complete selection process. It has 2 advantages:
1. The candidate can plan his/her day accordingly; if you tell them later they might not have necessary time available with them to appear for it.
2. It enhances the brand of your oganization since you portray your organization as 'transparent' organization and the not the one which believes in hiding things till end. Clear communication increases candidates confidence immensely.
OPS Managers generally look out for short cuts in selection process which do not work in long run so you need to go back and tell it to them.

I agree with Amit on the two points brought out by him regarding Planning the day and brand image / transparency.
It is good to inform candidates about the selection process so that they are aware as to what they have to face and probably come mentally prepared.
However the negative aspect is :
Candidates sometime may fear a written test and may not turn up at all.
So you may loose out on candidates for selection and the available candidates may get restricted.
All the best

Hi
What i would say, that you must inform the candidates about the written test.
This not only ensures that they get prepared, but also their belief on you stays.
Otherwise they 'll lose confidence on you and this if repeated might hamper the goodwill of your organisation.
Transparency should be there with the candidates, which'll help in Brand Building.
Think, by keeping yourself in the candidate's position.

hi ngan,
in my opinion you should tell about the written test which you are going to conduct to the candidates. this will be very loyal way to prove your companies loyality regarding candidates.
otherwise they will think in wrong way about your organization. this will effect on your companies reputation.
thanks,
have a nice day :)

Hi Amit
If u tell candidates they will be mentally prepared otherwise once they get a shock then they may not be in mood for evaluation.
Think from psychology posint of view.
