Left a BPO Job Without Notice 2 Years Ago: Can I Rejoin Without Issues?

Hi,

2 years ago, when I started my career in a BPO, I joined a company but had to leave due to family reasons. I left the company without giving them any notice. Now, after 2 years, can I rejoin the company if I get selected in the interview? Will there be any problems during verification?

Please revert back with an appropriate answer.

It sounds to me like you left on bad terms. If the HR manager is the same, perhaps they may have an issue. But other than that, I don't see a legal issue.

Ideally, companies have their database where employee details are always there. But in case if they don't have one, then you are lucky, dear. Usually, these days, the database of employees is there in every company, even if the HR Manager changes. Rarely would you find one where employee details, after leaving, are not uploaded.

My personal suggestion would be to be honest and tell them you worked and give them some genuine reasons for leaving rather than losing a good opportunity in the future forever. I too have faced the same condition wherein I joined the same company after 3 years. It's good to be blunt rather than losing an opportunity forever in that company by hiding things.

Otherwise, there are lots of options in other BPOs as this is the best industry to work in from all points of view - money, leisure, good benefits, transport, and not so hectic life, which is very important. There is always another side of the coin.

I believe it is better to tell them the reasons and join. Anyhow, they may be knowing through other sources over a period of time, which will be very embarrassing for you.

If the company has a resigned database, they could find your name and you might not be denied the job, but you might have to pay a penalty for the notice period not served, access card, and ID card. Since the company has not terminated you, don't worry. Be clear and tell them the reason for leaving the company. Assure them that you would not do the same again and make them realize that you didn't join a different company but returned to your parent company. HR would certainly appreciate these words.

If the executive denies, take a step ahead and request the manager to address your issue in a professional manner.

You don't have to worry. Be transparent and give some genuine reasons.

As I have mentioned in my previous post, the best thing is to inform them because if they come to know later on, it would be an embarrassing situation.

Be relaxed and go there with full confidence. Since you are true, you don't have to worry. The best thing would surely happen irrespective of whether you get the job or not.

Thanks for getting back. I am not concerned about legal issues because if there were any legal problems, they would have arisen in the past two years. My main worry is if I join, can the company terminate my employment once they discover that I previously worked for that organization and left without giving any notice?

I think we should not underestimate HR. The BPO normally has their databases for employees. Now, if we have failed to give the notice, it is not an issue as long as the employee is transparent. I personally think the BPO industry behaves very normally regarding in-notification before leaving, except for a few. So, I think it should not be much of a problem.

Look, it really depends on the company.

Some companies shelve their abscondee list after a period of time, and some don't. They blacklist your name. Get a hold of someone who is still in the company and try to have them find out how they deal with abscondees.

Also, on an advisory note: No matter how long ago your leaving of a company without proper formalities will always be seen in a bad light only by any HR. Be honest about the circumstances that made you do so. All the best.

Look, the first mistake you did was to leave without proper formalities. Now you have two choices:

1 - Be honest and remove the burden of all worry.
2 - Hide the fact and make another mistake. Even if you get the job, you will surely lose your sleep!

First, you will have to fill out a job application form before the interview. You will need to provide your experience background on the form, and the same questions regarding your experience background will be asked during the interview. You should share all the facts that you faced at the time of leaving. I believe this approach could increase your chances of securing the job again. I wondered if there is no other hidden item aside from your not giving prior notice before leaving the company 2 years ago. The tone of your statement above suggests that you are entertaining fear about something else. Be honest, and there will be no problem.

I think you should clarify this point during your interview. Discuss what has happened in the past and start with a stronger commitment, gaining their confidence.

It is better to be honest during the interview as every structured organization maintains data on exit interviews.

If you are going for an interview, you have to face many things. Sure, they will ask why you left without prior intimation; this will cause a bad impression of you. Before attending the interview, you can talk to the HR person so you might find a solution. Try your best, and from now on, don't do this.
