Hey guys!!

Please help me with this one. Could you guys please suggest some easy and interesting one-minute games and team-building activities that can be organized in the office premises? We have to conduct these games for all the employees for half an hour. We can either select a few employees for each game or have the whole group play the game. Please respond fast; it's very urgent!!

Hi Shweta,

You could organize a game to be played within a group of 5-6 people where they have to build a Lego project (FYI, Lego kits are available at toy shops). You could divide the team into groups and assign the same project to all the groups. The group that builds the project first, accurately and appropriately, wins. Then, you can debrief using the following questions:

1. (For the group that did not complete the project) - What is it that did not let you complete the project?
2. What did the winning team do differently to accomplish the task?

You are looking for replies like:
- Delegation of responsibility
- Leadership
- Effective communication
- Prioritizing
- Etc.

If you want more information or resources on the same, kindly email me at himanshudhaga@gmail.com, and I will be able to devise something for your requirements.

Hi friend,

I have 2 interesting team games that can be organized within the office premises with easily available props:

1: Tower game - Focus on team communication, delegation, planning, and execution conflicts among team members.

Requirements: 2 or more teams with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 8 participants, unlimited newspapers, tape, and scissors.

Duration: 15 mins

Instructions to be given to participants: Each team has to discuss among themselves and build the tallest and most steady/stable tower with the help of newspapers and tape within 15 mins.

The winner is the team that has built the tallest and most stable tower that stands for at least 1-2 mins.

Trainer/observer: Note how the teams communicate, who emerges as a leader, facilitators, roadblockers, etc., what happened at the time of execution after planning, and give feedback to the participants.

2: Paper-clip race: Teamwork without communication

Duration: 1 min

Requirement: 2 or more teams with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 10 participants, U pins or paper clips (2 for each participant, ensuring the clips are not interlocked).

Instructions: Give each participant 2 clips. The team is supposed to connect or interlock all clips within 1 min without any verbal communication. Allow them 1 min to discuss the strategy. Please observe that participants do not interlock the clips during this time period. For example, with 8 members, each having 2 clips, all 16 clips should be interlocked to form a circle.

Winner: The team that can interlock all the clips within 1 min.

Observer: Note how challenging it is when a task is to be executed without communication. Discuss what problems the team faced to complete the task.

I hope this helps you. Awaiting your reply.

Thank you, Meghana.

I will use the first Tower Game. I can imagine that the second one is rather easy. I will communicate back the results after implementation.

Swetha,

Puzzles with 10 to 20 pieces are good fun and offer a lot of learning opportunities. To engage your audience, consider picking up two or three different puzzles, mixing up all the pieces, and then forming groups to sort and assemble them. This activity can lead to many observations. Remember, it's not just about the game itself, but the observations and interpretations that matter a lot.

Dear Swetha,

Greetings!

1. Form a group of 2 individuals (who should not be friends) and ask them to introduce themselves to each other, discuss some commonalities, and try to understand each other.
2. Icebreaker game.
