Is the New Age Limit for LLB Courses Unfair to Aspiring HR Professionals? Share Your Thoughts

White Eagle
The Bar Council of India (BCI), which governs standards of legal education in India, introduced a 20 years age limit for the five-year LLB course and a 30 years age bar for the three-year LLB course from this year. According to me it's not only unfair, arbitrary, discriminatory but also against the directive principle of Sate policy.

I request you to put your views. It is very important issue most of the HR manager wants to purse Law degree after experience in there core field. The move of BCI will not only wash the dreams of many people but it will set wrong example. In near future you will see there is age limit for P.hd.

Dear,

I do not have an idea about this. If this age bar is given, then it should not be there. I too agree with you. Earlier, they have taken such steps as the Bar Council of India fixed that you can register to practice up to the age of 45 years, which was later ruled out by the Supreme Court.

Thanks,

It is completely unfair. There should be no age bar for attaining any kind of knowledge. I strongly stand against this. How do we convey our message to the government?

I think we should collectively look into the matter because education in any field is in the interest of the pursuer. There should be no age bars.

Dear All,

Thanks for your views, but we have to do something, but I don't know what. I request all HR family members to share their views and ideas.

The Law Ministry has also given their approval, and the BCI guidelines are binding on law colleges. A writ petition has been filed by xxxx in the Mumbai High Court to stay this decision, but so far, there has been no progress.

Thank you.

BCI's Age Limit for Law Courses: A Critical View

BCI is making a mockery of itself with the so-called "quality-improvement" process by imposing a maximum age limit of 30 years for a 3-year LLB. I have the following reasons:

1. India is lagging further behind in solving IPR-related cases. The reason is that to understand IPR, lawyers and judges have to be technically competent. This competence is severely lacking, despite India making significant contributions to WIPO and recently becoming a signatory to TRIPS. To address this, there is a need for technical experts to study law so that they can handle these IPR-related cases effectively.

2. BCI has a list of foreign universities/institutes that offer law degrees recognized by the BCI. Foreign applicants holding these degrees can take a qualifying exam in India to register with the Bar Council. These foreign universities/institutes do not impose age barriers on their degree courses. For example, the University of Buckingham, London, allows any individual over 25 to enroll in the course. It is ironic that while BCI recognizes these degrees, Indian citizens are restricted from pursuing legal studies in their own country.

3. If quality is a concern, BCI should set a specific year, for example, starting from 2020, when the age barrier will be enforced. This deadline will allow lawyers or technical experts to acquire the necessary knowledge to practice law effectively.

Somebody should open the eyes of BCI; otherwise, we are losing good brains to foreign degrees!

I do not agree with the Bar Council's decision. This deteriorates my dream of pursuing LLB.

Earlier, the Advocates Act had no age limit for obtaining legal education. By fixing an age limit, particularly for the three-year LLB degree course, legal education would be out of bounds for many people, he complained. He appealed to the court to declare the rule as void.

Dear All,

I am 32 years old and I want to pursue an LLB course, but there is a restriction that the age limit is 30 years.

1. The government should implement an increase in the age limit to 35 years.
2. My dream is to pursue an LLB course. I am currently working as an HR Executive for a long time.
3. When I saw the age limit on the website, I was completely shocked because I am not eligible to pursue the course of my dreams.

Regards,
Sunil
