Dear Vanitha,
Termination in account of maternity will cause imprisonment. Where as, The Indian Law subjected to Maternity Benifit Act, 1961, Under the section 21(1), 21(2) and 22 says as fallows.
Section 21(1):
Failure to pay maternity benefit or dismissing in account of maternity:
Penalty: Imprisonment for 3 to 12 months and/or fine : 2K to 5K
the other two sections are subject to Government employees and contravening provisions of the Act.
so, A women can take a legal action against the employer if she got terminated due to maternity.

Hi,
Sacking a person due to maternity is not possible. moreover recession can never be a reason for this. India has already faced 3 severe recessions in the history. This time it is bit big term and the effect is very hard globally. the term " recession " has become the word of the day and is being used to all possible extent by people. So both recession and maternity cannot be a reason for sacking any employee.
