Feeling Stuck in HR at 22: Can a Six Sigma Certification Boost My Career Prospects?

Hi Seniors,

I have around 4 years of experience in Recruitments with Big Brands in the Staffing/Recruitment Industry. I am currently handling a team of 6 recruiters. However, it seems I have reached a stagnation point in my career even though I am just 22 years old. I am a graduate in HR, and I do not have plans to pursue an MBA currently as I need to support my family. I would now like to transition to a Corporate firm in their HR division, but I am not finding any good openings as my current CTC is 3.2lpa. The firms mention that they cannot offer such a high salary to me as I am considered too young for them. I am wondering if a Six Sigma Certification would be beneficial for me in any way. What are the potential benefits of a Six Sigma Certification for someone in HR?

I would also like to request any seniors here to inform me if there are any openings available for me. I am looking forward to valuable suggestions from your end.

Most of Indian HR graduates are facing such a dilemma at the crossroads of their career to boost their chances for a better future. But they are not properly guided about the connection between concepts and HR functions.

Six Sigma is a process-driven tool to achieve perfection levels in the system and procedures, or we may also call it a Zero Defect process. Basically, there are norms for each level expressed in sigma. After attaining such perfection levels in every transaction, a certain error in a transaction is normal to award a level. These levels are six in numbers, therefore, there are One sigma, two sigma, three sigma, four sigma, and five sigma levels before attaining six sigma.

This is not a qualification for HR, but it's one tool that is being used to improve the system of business processes. HR is one among such business processes. Therefore, you cannot expect a full-time Six Sigma job.

There are many such concepts that exist, and these concepts are temporary phenomena like Quality Circles, TQM, Kaizen, People-CMM, etc. These concepts come and go; it's a temporary phenomenon.

People-CMM is one similar process improvement methodology very much identical to Six Sigma. What differs is their research methodology, and the end result of both concepts is the same. But these are not HR concepts predominantly; these are management concepts which apply to all business functions.

In this recession, nobody is interested in such time-wasting concepts that do not result in revenue-generating value addition to business.

Be more focused on your HR specialization.

Hi Saurab,

I suggest you stay in the recruitment firm for some more time until your family is independent from your income or make some arrangements where they are not completely dependent on you. At this early age, you are able to reach a good position and handle a team of 6, which is commendable. It's better to continue in recruitment and work on improving your qualifications during this time.
