Struggling with Analyzing HR Practices from Telecom Companies? Need Urgent Help!

Tasleem Ara Wani
Hello everybody.

I am working on a project "Benchmarking HR practices." The practices taken into consideration are Recruitment, Training, Performance Appraisal, and Rewards & Recognition. I have collected responses from six telecom companies. I am not able to understand how to analyze it. Can anybody help me out with this? It's very urgent.
nashbramhall
Have you taken qualitative or quantitative responses? If quantitative, there is not much to analyze as any analysis will not be statistically valid.
Tasleem Ara Wani
I'm sending you the questionnaire which was first prepared and the analysis. Tell me, is that right. What else do I need to do and how? I will be waiting for your reply.
Tasleem Ara Wani
Thank you very much. I want to ask you one thing: how should I describe the sampling size, research design, and research objective? I am really confused. Can you please help me out?
nashbramhall
You should have decided all that before you started the study. Sample size depends on what you have identified as the population. Have you surveyed all the telecommunication (mobile) operators in India or Kashmir (if you have narrowed down your geographical area)? Have you got a computer at home and can you use it for chatting using Skype or Yahoo Messenger, or better still use the voice facility to talk? I will be going for my walk now and will be available at the computer after 11 pm IST or tomorrow.

Hi Gaggan,

If you do that for Tasleem, will it be her work? I think what would be fair and proper is for Tasleem to write what she can, and we give her ideas to improve the script.

Analysis depends on the objective of the study. If practices in Recruitment, Training, Performance Appraisal, and Rewards & Recognition have been considered. Suppose the objective of the study is benchmarking in Recruitment, then you should focus on which area of recruitment is benchmarked. For example, sourcing candidates using the latest technology, recruitment through campus selection, or changing interview tests such as psychology, among others. The analysis should be based on both the current methods and benchmarked methods.

If you can provide me with details of your study, I can assist you further.

Dear Tasleem,

I am also working on a similar benchmarking project on recruitment strategies of Life Insurance Industries. I am in the process of collecting information. I would be conducting a comparative analysis of the policies and procedures at every step of recruitment, such as CV shortlisting, the interview process, psychometric tests, etc., and then would select the best practices from these.

Maybe you can give this a try.

Hi Tasleem,

If you require any further assistance in preparing your questionnaire, you can send me your research objective, aim, overview, and draft of the questionnaire that you have prepared so far. I can help you in organizing your questionnaire and can suggest possible ways of analysis since I have experience doing the same.

Best wishes,
Deval

Hi Tasleem,

I have sent two emails to you. Kindly go through them. One is a Word file where I have provided examples of how to draw conclusions with graphs prepared by me, and the other contains the project materials. I hope you find them useful and worthwhile. If you need more help, please email me.
Tasleem Ara Wani
Dear Gagan, I got your emails. Thank you very much. 😛

I would inform you if I need further help. :icon1:

Dear Deval, I have completed the questionnaire part. Thank you for your concern.

Hello everybody,

I want to know the answers to certain questions. Can anybody help me out with this, please?

Q1. I want to know the importance of union meetings, surveys, and suggestion schemes in handling employee grievances.

Q2. What is the importance of newspapers as a source of recruitment compared to other recruitment sources? What is the significance of metropolitan newspapers compared to local newspapers as sources of recruitment, and what is the importance of internet job boards and employment agencies as sources of recruitment?

Q3. Should applicants be notified even if they are unsuccessful?

Q4. What is the importance of panel and group interview processes?

Q5. How should employees be made aware of their career path within the organization?

Q6. What should be the interval for performance appraisals in the organization - quarterly, monthly, or yearly?

Q7. Should employees be recognized for their contribution towards society? If yes, why?

Please reply soon.

Sorry, Brijesh,

I saw your message only today. In the future, please send a private message if you need any help. Whether you conduct qualitative or quantitative research depends on the objectives. Please see my post on Research Methodology and also that by Prodcons.

Have a nice day.
