How Do I Analyze Employee Engagement Using the Q12 Model for My Project?

rahnamudapuram
Hi friends,

I am Raheena, currently pursuing my PGDM in Kerala. I am now working on my summer project at Cochin Port Trust in Cochin. The topic of my project is Employee Engagement, and I am using the Q12 model questionnaire. I need help on how to analyze this method. Please assist me, friends. :(:(:icon1::(:(

Thank you.

I do not know what the Q12 model is. Can you please post the questionnaire as an attachment?

I searched the web using Google and found quite a bit of info at http://www.rapidbi.com/created/emplo...ionmodels.html

Raheena, how many responses are you expecting? The analysis you can do depends upon the number of responses that you get and also on the objectives that you have set for your research. Simhan

Hi Raheena,

I request you to specify more on what you intend to actually ask. See, Q12 Gallup Organization's Survey is mainly carried out by firms for employee satisfaction and engagement. It has 12 main questions for which the employee has to rate from 1 to 5 (5 being the highest).

Questions vary. For instance, "Do you know what is expected of you?", "Did your manager speak to you regarding your work last month?", "Are you being motivated?", "Do you like your team?", etc. (these are instances for those questions).

Practically, these questions are surveyed by the managers, in turn, unit heads. The percentage of the overall score is calculated, and consequences are based on the resulting score.

Raheena:

Your query is not clear. If you are conducting a study on Employee Engagement, that is good. However, how do you intend to correlate it with Q12? As Kavitha rightly mentioned, Q12 is a survey conducted by Gallup for companies that opt to participate. These Q12 factors are not direct questions; they serve as the basis on which Gallup will formulate questions in collaboration with the organization. The number of questions can exceed 12, possibly reaching 30-40.

If you possess a scorecard for a Supervisor or Unit (Direct or Roll-up), please share it for analysis. Only 80 companies from India participated in this ESAT.

I hope this provides clarity. For any further clarifications, you may contact me at mirza_hr@hotmail.com.

Thanks,
Mirza

Thank you for the questionnaire. However, you have not addressed the questions I raised. I am including my comments below to assist you without the need for further searching.

Hi friend,
Expected sample size: 300, and the objective of the study is "how much employees are engaged at the Cochin Port Trust."
nashbramhall
Then, you can do quite a bit of analysis. You need to collect more information about the different responders: status, age, sex, etc. You could use these to see if there are any differences between them.

You could also conduct a factor analysis to see which of the questions form a group, i.e., have high correlation. Maybe if you ask an overall question like "How satisfied they are with their work?" you may be able to correlate that to other questions.

Please see my posts on Research Methods at CiteHr and other posts at https://www.citehr.com/search.php?searchid=1434190 on Employee Engagement by experts.

Hi Rahina,

How are you? How's the project?

During last month, I conducted the Employee Engagement Survey in my organization. After considering a 10% margin of error, we found that we have an 82% engagement level in the company.

The results were presented to the management with an awareness presentation on Employee Engagement.

Here, I am attaching the questionnaire for your review. If you need the presentation, please send me an email at jalmpm@hotmail.com.

This survey focuses on the following areas:
1. My Job
2. My Co-workers
3. My Manager
4. My Department
5. My Company.

I would suggest one change to Q1, which measures two factors: Tools and Supplies. How will you know whether tools or supplies or both are good/bad? It is always better to measure one factor with one question.

As an MBA student, I am working on my final project which focuses on the topic of work commitment and its influence on customer satisfaction. I am interested in understanding the difference between work commitment and employee engagement. This is crucial as one of my classmates is also investigating employee engagement, and based on his explanation, I am beginning to see similarities between the two concepts. If anyone could clarify the distinction, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you have insights to share, please reach out to me at priyadasreedhar@gmail.com. Thank you.

Best regards,

Dear,

The revised DA for April '09 at the Rubber factory falls under which industry category for the applicable DA. Share your view.

Hi Malavika,

Employee engagement is the level of commitment and involvement an employee has towards his organization and its values. It is a barometer that determines the association of a person with the organization. In simple terms, we can say that this is a willingness or commitment to stay with the company with enthusiasm for the work.

Dear Simhan,

In regards to the Q1 - Tools and Supplies;

Do you think that without the proper tools, an employee can perform well? Here, tools and supplies mean all the work-related facilities. We are an FMCG Concern; here, tools and supplies are very important, such as well-conditioned vehicles, merchandising equipment, stationery, sales tools like handheld terminals, good working PCs, printers, and other IT-related items. We need to evaluate whether an employee is satisfied with his current tools and supplies as part of the Engagement survey as it also affects the Engagement Index.

Hi Jaleel, thank you for the clarification. How will a person respond if the equipment is good, but there are not enough stationeries available? It is always better to include only one factor per question.
jalmpm
You are correct. We can make it one factor in one question, which will be easier to understand and respond to by an employee.

Respected sir, thanks for your information, sir. I am changing my questionnaire to include age group, sex, class-wise distribution, department-wise distribution, etc. In my company, there are a total of 9 departments, and in all departments, employees are classified into 4 classes. The total employee strength is 4306. I want to collect data from 300 employees as samples.

Hi Rahana,

Your questionnaire is good, but make it clearer so that employees can understand it. I would suggest adding the question, "Have you improved yourself after joining this organization?"

Thank you.

Hi, Please send me a private message as well, as I may miss your messages on the forum if I do not access CiteHR for a day or two. I am going to my friend's place for dinner and will provide you with feedback on the questionnaire tomorrow.

One quick observation: Ask for background information at the end. Also, state that the information given will be treated as confidential and that only you will have access to it (if that's true).

Additionally, do not ask two questions in one. For example, they may have material but not tools. The treatment may be objective but not fair, etc.

Hi all,

I am also doing a project on employee engagement. I have to find different tools and techniques for measuring employee engagement and also compare different surveys on this topic. I have identified a few such as Gallup, Hewitt, Mercer, and Towers Perrin. However, I am really confused about how to compare these surveys. Can someone please give me some ideas on how to do it?
nashbramhall
Hi Neha,

If you have received your project proposal along with its aim and objectives, kindly post the document so that we can understand exactly what you are planning.
