Hi Nupur,
The word Human Resource (HR) itself explain the mean and importance of it.
The skills and competencies of an organization's human resource professionals have a measurable effect on its business performance. Companies with better HR professionals do a better job of managing change, gaining talent, and meeting financial goals. But, the human resource departments in which they work have an even greater impact on bottom-line results, according to a global human resource.

On Human Resource:-
Human Resource is the backbone of any organization. Properly trained and highly skilled human resource is perceived as the greatest asset of an organization. Skilled personnel contribute to efficiency, growth, increased productivity and market reputation of an organization. This has been realized by industrial, commercial, research establishments and even governments. Invariably, a separate Human Resources Development department exists in all these organizations to attend to the matters relating to recruitment, training and deployment. (got from net surfing)

In the real world, HR is little more than a drain on companies and slows down the operation. Jack Welch, the famous CEO of GE Capital said in Forbes "We want more people selling and fewer people in HR. God only know what they do!" He's right. I've spent my career in executive staffing and the only time we get delayed is when HR get's in the middle of things. They're great for managing benefits packages and running payroll checks but lord help everyone when they start writing job descriptions, interviewing candidates or maneuvering politically inside the organization to wrangle more control in order to make they seem more important. Just remember that in the 70's, they were called "Personnel". The LOWLY Personnel department. Bottom rung, unimportant paper clerks. Some bright guy in the 80's changed the name to HR and suddenly executives started thinking they were important. Brilliant! To me, a person in the know who works with top executives, they are still CLERKS. (got from net surfing)
From my point of view, HR Dept. is the department from where the assets of the Co. are recruited, HR professional are aware with the market updates on Salary Scale, Technical Skills scales, etc, etc,........they judge out the right employee from a huge pool of experts.......they train them, does all such things which helps it's Co. to meet it Objectives & goal.
Really performing a HR profile, is something very screened part for any organization.
IF YOUR HR DEPT. IS GOOD, THEN YOUR CO. IS THE BEST.
That's all what I can say about HR.
