Seeking Guidance on Creating an Organogram and Finding Market Salary Ranges for Departments

tittli
Hello Friends,

I need your help with the following:

1) I need to prepare an Organogram for our company. Can anyone please give me an idea of what should be included in an organogram? Should it look like a matrix or a tree diagram indicating the hierarchy and reporting relationships?

2) From where can I get the salary limits (the lower and upper ranges as per prevailing market standards) for each department such as excise, stores, accounts, personnel, HR, production, QC, maintenance, etc.? Is there any forum or place where I can access such data? There are several disparities in the existing salary structure in our organization, and we would like to rectify the salary structure according to current standards. Can someone please help me or suggest some avenues from where I can obtain such data?

Regards,
Vinita

Dear Vinita,

You are correct in the case of an Organogram; it's usually a tree diagram. To know the market standard salary structure, there are a few ways I can suggest:

1) Ask any consultant.
2) Compare a few companies' salary structures.
3) If you have job portal access, then check what people are earning in that particular position.

I hope this will help you at least a bit.

Cheers,

Dear Vinita,

Your organogram would depend upon your organizational structure. If there are hierarchies and layers, it would look like a tree. Your organogram would look like a matrix if your company utilizes functional and divisional chains of command simultaneously in the same part of the organization, commonly for one-of-a-kind projects.

The best way to go about getting market data for salaries is to commission a benchmark survey for each of the positions in your company. You may use the services of consultants. Alternatively, you may ask the consultants to provide you with the data from their existing database.

Hope this helps you.

Cheers!
