Starting HR from Scratch at a New Startup: How Would You Approach It?

Hey all,

I have just joined a new startup company, and they want to restructure their whole HR department. In other words, they want to start from scratch. I do have my ideas on how to go about doing that, but could you please share your ideas to help me improve upon the restructuring?

P.S. They don't have anything, so when I say right from scratch, it is in its truest sense.

Hi Milind,

You can work on it by yourself. First, you have to identify the requirements and simultaneously create manuals for each. To do this, refer to any good HR book and start from the first chapter.

Dear Archana,

I have gone through the same phase. What I did was start with Hierarchy, then identify the need for new recruitment, followed by training needs such as Induction, and finally, appraisals and other related tasks one by one. During that process, I made changes to the processes to reduce the time taken in various activities, among many other adjustments. I hope this may provide you with some direction.

It's good to hear from you. First, you need to understand the requirements to set up the HR Department. According to your requirements, you should seek some consultancy input and then start working.
