Understanding Absenteeism Rates and Leave Management in Organizations

Hiten Parekh
Hi Friends! Can someone please help me understand absenteeism better by giving an answer to the below-mentioned example and the logic behind the answer, please?

Out of 10 employees in an organization, 2 are not present for a particular day. Out of these 2 employees, 1 has applied for leave one week back, and the leave is sanctioned by the concerned supervisor. The second employee has not applied for leave and provided no intimation.

In this case, the absenteeism rate for that particular day would be 10% or 20%.

Would appreciate answers as below:

Absences could be an indicator of employee dissatisfaction with their work role, immediate supervisor, company policies, etc., i.e., an attrition indicator. Analyze the leave patterns for various factors.

Only the second one would be counted towards unscheduled absences.

Did the first one take leave after the roster was released? If no, it will be counted.
