List of CSR Programme where we can participate once in a year?

padmajaprasad
Hi, I am working in a Software Development Company in Hyderabad as Manager - HR. We are planning for Corporate Social Responsibility Programs once a year. Can anyone help me suggest/list such programs? One aspect is to spend time and effort (preferably). The other aspect is to do the same with some contribution/donation.

Thanks & Regards, Padmaja

Hi, this is Suruchi. I would like to suggest hosting events like blood donation camps and raising awareness about eye donation. Additionally, organizing awareness sessions for women and children on basic necessary habits in nearby villages could be beneficial.

Hi Padmaja,

Some of the major companies I am aware of do the following:

1. Development of the area around the organization
2. Medical camps
3. Some environmental initiatives like planting trees and so on.

Anu

Adopt a School - Modernize, refurbish, and also conduct classes on updated technologies at their level.

Dear Padmaja,

Today, we know that the usage of polythene bags has tremendously increased, creating a lot of pollution hazards and causing trouble in various areas. Despite knowing this hazard, we are still finding it difficult to avoid using them. You can also plan along these lines by spreading awareness to avoid the use of polythene bags. Furthermore, donations to orphanages and blood donations can also be encouraged.

GOOD LUCK,
DENNIS

Hi,

In our company, we used to celebrate World AIDS Awareness Day at a local NGO. This is for HIV-affected children and people. We celebrate 1st December as their common birthday. We contribute some amount, buy toys for children, and gifts for people. Besides this, we provide dinner for them. We have been doing this for the last three years. They eagerly await this day every year.

You can also do something similar.

Pravin

Hello Padmaja,

Corporate Social Responsibility is a vast area. Instead of thinking of big expenses, why don't you start from scratch?

1. Since you work in an IT company, you can distribute your old computers to village schools, other NGOs, orphanages, etc. There are lots of poor kids who have not even seen computers at this age.

2. Try to visit some slums or colonies or contact a few NGOs that function based on slums. Find intelligent kids and try to sponsor their education collectively or through the company.

3. Periodically arrange organizational visits to NGOs, poor homes, etc., with your employees so that they will have an idea about the poor class in the society they live in.

4. When the academic year begins, you can find kids and distribute study materials to them.

5. Occasionally visit hospitals where chronic patients are treated. If you find that they are financially marginalized, offer your helping hand to them. Make sure they are indeed poor before you start helping them.

6. Why don't you celebrate your company's anniversary, birthday party, marriage anniversary, etc., in an orphanage?

I think you will get thousands of ideas. I am from Trivandrum, and I don't know the exact situation in Hyderabad.

Thanks,
Afsal

Hello Padmaja ji,

If you can help me in securing an internship program for 2 months in your organization, it will be helpful for a budding HR manager like me. Please assist me. I am a first-year student pursuing my 1st-year PGDM full-time regular course, and I am in need of an internship HR project for 2 months to work alongside the organization. Please reply to me, ji.

Thank you

Dear Padmaja,

I would like to suggest listing some villages to prepare SHGs (Self Help Groups), which are groups of 10-15 people. You can help them get started with their economic activities, market linkages, etc.

Hi,

I would like to suggest that you focus on female education as a part of CSR. In that, you can provide free education to the girl child of workers working in your organization.

Man is a social animal, and so is every employee. First, let us plan for a holistic approach, i.e., focusing on the overall development of the employees, their families, and their surroundings, and then the community as a whole. We should always remember "to help a person to help himself." As a Chinese adage reads, "It is better to teach a person fishing than give him a fish every day."

Adopting a town/village and working towards overall sustained development by means of providing education, health, environment, infrastructure, vocational employment, i.e., inclusive growth. Let us see whether our corporates are paying due tax to the government and abiding by pollution norms, whether employing child labor. We may also donate blood, help NGOs working for various causes, assist employee families through counseling.

Hi,

We make corporate films, TV commercials, and multimedia presentations. Can I ask my HYD office officers to contact you? We can do a video on this proposed activity on CSR.

All the best. Thanks,

Hello Padmaja,

First and foremost, what is the motive for getting this idea? Now, don't get me wrong... CSR is not something that we do once in a while, like going to a movie and then forgetting about it until the next year - though there could be such avenues too, unless you are looking at CSR as a tax-saving scheme.

I suggest that your company first conduct an internal review to identify areas where you can contribute. Then, proceed to look for opportunities that align with your core strengths. That will be the best approach. For example, doctor camps - held regularly, not just once a year - may be beneficial for pharmaceutical companies, and so on.

In a way, I am suggesting a SWOT analysis of your organization, except that here, it will focus on the skills that are underutilized within the company. I conducted a similar analysis for my company, and since 2005, we have been supporting kids in areas where we excel.

TS

Hi,

You can also think of organizing any activity for NGO kids, like taking them for a half-day outing to a zoo, snake park, or aquarium. Alternatively, you could consider taking them to a summer camp. This will increase the kids' knowledge and refresh them with good memories.
tajsateesh
Uadsul's idea is good, especially with the summer vacation coming.

I remember we arranged a stargazing session for kids in May 2006, in collaboration with the local Astronomy Society, to observe a unique event where five planets were visible in the sky. This event was widely covered in the news at that time.

Hello Padmaja,

This is Prajaktta. I am working on a CSR project at my company. It's been 6 months since we started the project with a lot of brainstorming.

One aspect I can suggest is that donating something to a needy organization is just not enough. As responsible corporate citizens, we need to ensure that our help is really reaching the needy people. There are numerous target groups where you can devote your time, efforts, and funds. But I really feel that we should ensure that it reaches them.

Another aspect you can consider is to start with individuals. That is, you can begin with a small group, such as students from deprived areas, orphans, patients, educate women from deprived areas about health and hygiene, or work with students from municipal corporation schools. They have many dreams but may not know how to pursue them.

Many such initiatives can be worked out. Please keep us updated about your program. All the best!

Best wishes,
Prajaktta
